Spider-Man Actor Daniel Curry in 'Stable Condition' After Accident; Show Will Go On as Scheduled

Spider-Man, Turn Off the Dark will be performed as scheduled on August 16, a day after actor Daniel Curry was badly injured during the second act of the August 15 evening performance, whch was then canceled, at Broadway's Foxwoods Theatre.

"Following last night’s accident at Spider-Man, Turn Off The Dark, Daniel Curry remains in the hospital in stable condition having sustained an injury to his foot," production spokesperson Rick Miramontez said in a statement. "Tonight’s performance will go on as scheduled. The technical elements of the show are all in good working order, and we can confirm that equipment malfunction was not a factor in the incident. Our thoughts are with Daniel and his family.”

Curry, a swing in the show, was taken to Bellevue Hospital after the incident. A native of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Curry's other credits include dancing in the tour of Man in the Mirror - A Tribute to Michael Jackson and MTV's VMA promo with recording artist, Ne-Yo. He trained at LaGuardia School of Performing Arts, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater and Children's Theatre Co.

In a 2011 interview with Minnesota's StarTribune newspaper, Curry said that he always "had these big dreams" about wanting to dance on a Broadway stage. The actor was in "shock and awe" when he found out he landed a part in the blockbuster musical, and wasn't turned off by news of cast members' injuries and artistic disagreements about the production. Curry seemed confident about the safety precautions employed by Spider-Man's team. "I have not been injured, knock wood," he told the paper. "Safety is paramount for the show. There's an A plan, a B backup, all the way to H."

This is the latest in a series of accidents that have occurred at the high-flying hit show: original Arachne Natalie Mendoza (who ended up exiting the production) sustained an injury during the first preview, T.V. Carpio, another Arachne, was sidelined after an onstage mishap, former cast member Joshua Kobak sued the production for his alleged performance-related injuries, and ensemble member Christopher W. Tierney was seriously hurt when he fell from an onstage platform during the show's December 20, 2010 performance. Tierney returned to the production, which was reworked to include stronger safety procedures, five months later.
